St Brendan’s College proudly celebrates the incredible achievement of Old Boy Brady Fielder, who has made history as the second Australian to reach No. 1 in the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) World Championship standings. If he maintains his position through the remainder of the season, he will become the second Australian ever to win the coveted PBR World Championship Gold Buckle—following in the footsteps of fellow SBC Old Boy, Troy Dunn.
Troy Dunn made history in 1998 as the first and, so far, only Australian to claim the prestigious title. His legendary career included two PBR World Finals victories and induction into the PBR Ring of Honor. Now, over two decades later, Brady Fielder has positioned himself at the top of the world rankings, bringing St Brendan’s College into the global spotlight once again.
Hailing from Clermont, Brady attended St Brendan’s College from 2015 to 2017 as a boarder, excelling in the College’s rodeo program and serving as Rodeo Captain in his senior year. Known for his natural talent, dedication, and resilience, Brady honed his skills at SBC before launching his professional career. His success on the Australian rodeo circuit opened doors internationally, and his recent triumph in Pennsylvania has put him in prime position to chase the ultimate title.
Principal Mr. Robert Corboy congratulated both champions: “To have two St Brendan’s Old Boys rise to the very top of professional bull riding is a testament to the spirit, talent, and resilience fostered at St Brendan’s College. Troy was a trailblazer, showing that an Australian could take on the best in the world and win. Brady’s current success continues that legacy, and we are all watching with great anticipation as he fights to make history.”
As the only school in Australia with dedicated rodeo grounds, St Brendan’s College continues to foster elite rodeo talent through its Rodeo Club, which provides students with hands-on experience, training opportunities, and pathways into professional competition. The College holds regular practice days on site, and uniquely, owns its own bucking stock, allowing students to develop their skills in a professional environment.
The College has produced many standout riders who have gone on to perform at the highest levels of the sport. Recent school leavers, including Jacob Carige and Ben Moran, are currently competing in the United States. Jacob was named the 2022 Australian Champion Junior Bull Rider and went on to compete in the Youth Bull Riders (YBR) World Finals in Texas, securing the Youth World Champion Bull Rider title. Jacob was offered a scholarship at Tarleton State University to pursue an engineering degree while continuing his rodeo career, much like Ben Moran, who is currently studying Welding Technologies at Western Texas College under scholarship. Ben is already considering continuing his studies to complete his master’s degree, demonstrating the value of education that was impressed upon him during his time at the College.
Many current students and Old Boys are also actively competing on the Australian rodeo circuit, proving that the program is a crucial stepping stone for aspiring riders. For many students, rodeo is more than just a sport—it is a passion, a career path, and a way of life. The College prides itself on Brotherhood, Opportunities, Pathways, and Belonging, and the Rodeo Club exemplifies these values, providing students with the support, skills, and community they need to pursue their dreams.
With Brady Fielder now ranked No. 1 in the world and aiming to etch his name alongside Troy Dunn as a PBR World Champion, the entire SBC community will be watching and cheering as he pushes toward the ultimate achievement in professional bull riding.
