Middle School Music

Year 8 Music

Two elective music courses are offered in Year 8 to foster students’ love of music and further develop their skills :

  • Contemporary Ensemble – Students learn guitar, with an introduction to percussion and keyboard, building a strong foundation in contemporary music performance.
  • Concert Band – Students are assigned a woodwind or brass instrument to initially set students up for success.

Years 9–10 Middle School Music

In Years 9 and 10, students can continue their musical journey by selecting from the following elective music courses:

  • Contemporary Ensemble – Develops performance skills in guitar, bass guitar, percussion, and keyboard, mirroring the structure of a modern rock band. This course also covers music theory, musicianship, history, and composition, aligned with national (AMEB) and international music standards.
  • Concert Band – Focuses on brass, woodwind, and percussion performance in a large ensemble setting.
  • Music Theory and Performance (MTP) – This course is by application only and provides additional practice time and support for students studying an instrument with a specialist teacher. It ensures students gain fundamental theory, musicianship, and historical knowledge in line with AMEB and international music frameworks.
